From his series entitled "Antiquarum Statuarum Urbis Romae". -- Giovanni Battista de'Cavalieri was an Italian engraver. He was born at Lagherino and died at Rome. His style of engraving resembles that of Aeneas Vico (1523-1567). Many of his plates are copies after the great Italian masters, like Raphael and Michelangelo; they are etched, and finished with the graver. Cavalieri's success is also dedicated to the documentation of Roman antiquities, in particular in the four volumes Antiquarum statuarum urbis urbe Romae, published from 1561 to 1594, which show the ancient statues of the main Roman collections.
