Hopi Pot by Laura Dashee

When you hold this handsome iconic pot by Laura Dashee (Water Fox), you can understand why her name is synonymous with fine Hopi Pottery! It feels amazingly smooth in the hand with the heft we expect for it's size. The paintings of traditional graphic birds are precise; the linework is both delicate & strong in a deep black beeweed against the shiny polished red slipped surface. These traditional white pots decorated with red and black are among her best work! This was finely made using time honored materials & methods. The clay was harvested & arduously prepared using ground shards of older pots as temper. This was handbuilt with light colored clay using the coil method, painted with a red slip paint  & handpolished. The paint was handmade from mineral sources (red) & beeweed (black) and applied with a traditional yucca brush over the light colored claybody. This is signed Laura Dashee, Hopi on the base. It measures approx 3.25” H x 5” W x 5“D. Beautiful Hopi pot by a famous contemporary master potter!

Note: The only biographical info I could find on Laura Dashee indicates she began actively making pottery in the 1970's.

Very Good Condition! There are a few small flaws in the piece like teeny divots or nicks, made after it's creation. They are minor and likely caused from small impacts. This displays really well! See photos.
