If you’ve just received your folded bumper cover, you might be curious why it’s not already in its full shape. Well, it’s all about saving on shipping costs! Most aftermarket bumper covers come folded to make shipping more affordable. The good news is, they're made of a special plastic that remembers its shape, so they'll unfold perfectly once warmed up. Here’s a simple guide to help you unpack, unfold, and prepare your bumper cover for installation:

  1. Unboxing: Carefully remove the bumper cover from its packaging, being cautious with any cutting tools to avoid damaging it.
  2. Check for Instructions: Look for any included instructions and read them carefully.
  3. Inspection: Take a close look at the bumper cover for any noticeable scratches or defects. Minor scuffs are normal and won’t affect your final paint job. Outdoor Method: If you have outdoor space and time, you can use the sun’s natural warmth to unfold your bumper cover.
  4. Sunlight Unfolding:
    • Find a sunny spot and lay the bumper cover flat, facing down, on a soft surface like cardboard.
    • Let it sit in the sun for one to four hours, depending on the temperature.
    • After a couple of hours, flip the cover so it faces forward.
    • Finally, flip it face up for the last hour.
    • Test fit the unfolded bumper on your vehicle.
    • Indoor Method: If outdoor space or sunlight isn’t available, you can use a heat gun indoors.
  5. Heat Gun Unfolding:
    • Position the creased areas of the bumper cover facing forward.
    • Hold the heat gun a few inches away from the creases and keep it moving to evenly distribute the heat.
    • Avoid focusing on one spot for too long to prevent damage to the plastic.
    • Test fit the unfolded bumper on your vehicle.

Finishing Touches: If some areas still need work, repeat the heat gun process until everything looks straightened out. Once your bumper cover is fully unfolded, you’re ready to prime and paint it to match your vehicle's color. By following these steps, you’ll have your bumper cover ready for installation in no time!
