For sale is this charming miniature oil painting on copper.  It has old style script in pen verso:  "By Isaac Van Ostade born 1616 died 1689".  I can't confirm that this is by Van Ostade as this period is not my speciality, so I am labeling it "Dutch School".  It is definitely 17th century, and a nice study of a tavern-goer drinking from a delftware stein.  The writing verso is on satin wood, and I believe the frame is solid silver although there are no hallmarks anywhere.  The painting measures about 8 x 6 centimeters and weighs a total of 36 grams.  The painting has paint loss and scratching throughout showing the under copper in places.  It will likely need some professional restoration. The oval frame is in good condition.
