The work at hand is a (probably) Zimbabwan 15 inch carved wooden bust of a pensive man.  Carved into the base is the name "Maynard Makoni", presumably the sculptor, bearing in mind that Makoni is both a surname and district in Zimbabwe.  The bust, likely from the 1960s or 70s, appears to be in very good condition with only a light patina and three minor grain separations, all on the rear.  (The wood's presumed to be white seringa, favored by Shona carvers because it can be worked without drying).  There are five small surface smudges of some sort (or sorts) of pigment, likewise all on the rear of the piece.
