The only power tubes I use in my Super Reverb are RCA 6L6GC Black Plates and/or NOS GE 6L6GCs, the older short bottle type. Both are amazing tubes and to my ears nothing else matches them. My personal favorites are the RCAs. Beautiful sparkling top with a full rich bottom. Very well balanced throughout the tonal spectrum. Just beautiful tone. Overdriven they are like butter.

These are the REAL RCA 1973 SHORT BOTTLES! RCA had Fender in mind when they made these and they are mighty little TUBES!!!

Hard to find in good condition these tubes are nearly identical. I wish the markings were perfect but at least they are still visible. 2 RCA USA 6L6GC SHORT BOTTLE black plates date codes EI/EI, June 1973 -USED Tested- Tubes MATCHED 70/70- In White Boxes. We tested them in our Mercury 1100C and they are a perfect match. They produce very strong clean pronounced sound in our MC30, targeting Fender designs where drive is highly desirable. They each have one SIDE HALO getter. Construction is identical. The markings are readable to marginal, 6L6GC, USA, EI and EI.

I bought one and then another one showed up. They tested the same = STRONG, no shorts, no gas emissions, and they have ample clean headroom. Priced to reflect what they are, somewhat exotic and unusual. They are noticeably shorter than almost any other RCA 6L6GC. I had never seen them before and at first thought they were 5881s, but clearly they are not!
