This auction is for an 1890s Ives cast iron locomotive and cast iron tender. The locomotive is 9” long and the tender is 3.5” long.

The paint appears to be original on both, most of the red paint is gone from the smokestack, there are only hints of it as well as the gold accent paint on the engine is mostly gone. There are no breaks or cracks. All parts are original.  The bell is missing. There are no markings on either the locomotive or the tender. The closest model I can find is 2-2-0 on page 91 of Cast Iron Floor Trains by Rick Ralston.  Happy bidding!

Additional information: You'll see the clockwork version of  this set as No. 1181 on page 217 of Ralston's terrific book CAST IRON FLOORTRAINS. The locomotive was sold with or without the motor. The non-powered  version is more rare.  The front pilot  wheels pivot, so the loc could be set to run in a circle. The patent date is1894. This is a wonderful set and extremely rare, especially the tender.
