GEORGE BERNARD SHAW Walking Stick Handle carved in solid British OAK

HAND MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN USING ONLY NATIVE BRITISH HARDWOODS

Offered in this sale is a completed walking stick/cane handle carved from solid hardwood depicting the head and upper body of George Bernard Shaw. The handle was cut from a piece of seasoned oak with the grain running from top to bottom to give maximum strength. It has been left in its natural state and then given several coats of varnish.

The base has a 7.5 mm diameter hole that was used as a fixing point during carving/finishing. The base is squared 90 degrees to the screw hole and is ready for fitting to a shaft of your choice. If you like this handle but would like it to fit a different sized shaft just let me know and I will carve a similar one but to fit the shaft of your choice.

Dimensions are approximately:

Length - Tip of nose to back 52 mm, or approximately 2 inch

Height - Top of head to point of marriage 112 mm or approximately 4.4 inch. This includes a 8 mm section for collar to cover joint between both sections..

Width of handle at the widest point is 42.5 mm, or approximately 1.67 inch; this is ready to fit to a shaft 26mm or approximately 1 inch in diameter at the point of marriage.

The metal spike and coins are not included they are just there to hold the work in place and to give you a sense of scale.

The copper coin is a British 2p and the silver coin is a USA half dollar and the yellow coin a 20cent euro coin.

Each handle is individually carved and finished by myself here in Great Britain from native hardwoods. I do not make any handles using resin. I will use the basic design again but no other handle will ever be the same as this one. Added to the fact that timber is a natural product and no two pieces of wood will ever be the same, each handle is therefore unique.
