Vintage Pine Needle Basket

Pine needle baskets were originally created by native American weavers for utilitarian use. The craft was embraced by American hobbyists in the early 20th century, so many people made these. This basket was made by someone in the mid 20th century or earlier. The weaver utilized the entire length of the needle bundles using the woody ends to punctuate the spiraling design. It was masterfully woven with a split stitch using raffia in an unusual shape. This measures approx 2.5" H x 6" W x 6" D. This would look equally wonderful in a woodsy cabin or on a shelf with native American collectibles!

Excellent condition! There is some wear to the bundle ends on the base, commensurate with age.
