A 1882 Dutch silver parcel-gilt cake slice, by J.M. Van Kempen & Sons, Voorschoten, chased with exotic bird decoration in original box.

Reputed to be a gift from Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands (1880-1962).

Good clear hallmarks in use between 1814-1953. They are, left to right: Maker's mark - VK for Fa. J.M. Van Kempen & Zoon (Son), Lion Passant mark indicates 2nd standard purity = minimum .833, the Minerva head is the duty mark (Minerva's helmet shows a letter indicating from which of the 17 assay offices it came, in this case "C" for The Hague), the final mark is the letter date mark (x = 1882).

In excellent pre-loved antique condition with no faults found. Some wear to the parcel gilt on the bird. The box is showing signs of wear to the edges.

Measurements approximately:

Length: 22.5cm (9”)

Box: 26.5cm x 10cm (10 & 1/2” x 4”)

Weight: 73.72g

I have given it a quick wipe over, but as with all my items I don't over clean or polish. There may be the odd age related wear/mark commensurate with age, anything of note is listed above.
