You are purchasing a hardcover in dust jacket
edition of Hollywood in the 1940s: The Stars' Own Stories edited by Ivy Crane Wilson with a
foreword by Liz Smith, published by Frederick Ungar Publishing Company in 1980. The book reprints articles from movie
magazines from the 1940s, a result of the fascination with the habits, mores,
and passions of America’s favorite screen heroes and heroines. One result was the personal touch accounts of
the star’s lives and goals, in stories and photographs such as these. Private lives were not exposed; it’s the
pretense of intimacy that is good-naturedly on display in stories that bear the
public authorship of such favorites as Ingrid Bergman, Humphry Bogart, Betty
Grable, Johnny Weissmuller (the redoubtable Tarzan), Loretta Young and others. The book and dust jacket are in near mint
condition, the dust jacket is in a Mylar protector. The book has been stored on a bookshelf in my
Edgar Rice Burroughs Tarzan collection since I purchased it new. Please refer to photos as they are an
important part of the description and ask any questions before purchasing.
