Genuine (Nearly 30 year old) Japanese Shimano chain.

I.G....Chamfered/Scalloped corners of the outside plates/links to aid chain Derailment and pickup. These cut outs are on ALL of the external links, on both sides of the chain keeping it multi directional/orientable.

(I'm not sure if that's a real word!!..but you get the idea it's good upside down or back to front too!!)

Some newer 'Directional' chains are only cut out on one side.
