OMEGA

STUNNING GENUINE OMEGA 1954 WATCH!!!

Excellent Omega Calibre 420 in Absolutely Great Condition!!

This is a superb 70-year-old two-tone gold-steel manual wind Omega watch in very good condition. The watch was fully serviced very recently on 12th April 2024 and is keeping excellent time. It has an outstanding manual wind movement cal.420 inside the case. Calibre 420 has derived from the famous cal.36.5. The production run started in 1951 and finished in 1959. There were 147,000 pieces produced. When this watch was manufactured, Omega was arguably the most prestigious watchmaker in the world, with the brand having more prestige in the eyes of the general public than its arch-rival Rolex. In 1962, master regulator Joseph Ory had fine-tuned a series of conventional, standard production Omega wristwatches in a variety of different size classes. Literally, he pulverised the two previously held category records for accuracy at the Geneva Observatory. Omega was officially the manufacturer of the most precise wristwatches on earth. This calibre has 17 jewels and the well-maintained movement looks great. "Omega Watch Co Swiss” is signed on the bridge together with "17 Jewels" while the calibre number 420 is stamped on the plate. The watch measures 34mm without the crown and 42mm lug to lug. The case back has reference No. 2735-SC. The acrylic crystal is in perfect shape. The white dial has golden facetted reliefs and Arabic numerals as hour markers with excellent golden ‘Dauphine’ Omega hands. The crown is signed with the Omega logo. Brand new brown leather strap complements the look. The watch will come in a presentation box. We give the future owner a 3-month warranty for peace of mind. Please study the pictures carefully as these are at great magnification and show all the flaws that second-hand watches always have.

I don't enhance pictures so you can see the real watches with all the blemishes and imperfections. The photos are at great magnification and even tiny marks are visible - you will not be able to see those with a naked eye. You will be able to see the specks of dust even though I try my best to wipe these off. This piece doesn’t just tell the time – it tells the story. I hope it gets the treatment of being used daily as it deserves.

We brought it back to nearly the same condition as it was when new and it feels like moving back in time by 70 years. This is just a hobby that I had for years. Now, even my teenage son has engaged and has helped with HTML and the layout of the listing - they say that once the father had Omega his son will not go for anything else but also Omega. The timeless piece!

I am proud how this watch has been transformed back to its nearly original state - we never cheat (unlike others I have seen) to show the different model on the face of it even though this movement and the case has been used by Omega for a more prestigious models. We only use the original Omega watch parts for the replacements. Sometimes we have to wait for a long time before we find the replacement parts at the reasonable price.

You can search Omega website and you will find the same model in the vintage watches section. It even has the picture remarkably similar to the ones you see here.

Jeremy Clarkson once said that you don't really need five cars or five watches - on this occasion I tend to disagree. On watches, not cars. I have more than five watches and you can wear them on different occasions - unlike cars. No opinion on ownership of five cars - still working on it.

Please do contact me if you need any other information. Like I said before, this is a hobby for me and I do have a day job which means I am not always responding to the messages straight away but I will do my best to come back to you as quickly as possible.

I have bought a nice camera not long ago (photography is my new passion) and I am doing my best to catch the detailed pictures from all angles. Please study the pictures carefully as these form part of the description and show all the imperfections.

Let me tell you a bit about the service we have given to this watch five weeks ago. The movement has been taken apart completely to the last little screws and tiny parts. The performance the movement will deteriorate over time if not cared for properly. The lubricants will dry up and lose their cohesiveness in time. All the parts are cleaned in special chemical solution that dissolves old lubricants, grime, dust or residue that is still left within the case and movement. This process normally takes just over 24 hours. After that, each little part is checked again for any blemishes and faults that can result in the movement not working at 100% correctly. If there are any parts to be replaced this is the time to identify that need. Once all the parts are checked, replaced and rechecked the process of reassembling can begin. There are different lubricants for the different parts and 'jewels' so the special care needs to be taken. It does take a while... Once everything is back together the electronic instruments are being used to set the timing of the movement to be perfect.

The movement after service or any parts being replaced need the bedding in time of couple weeks and readjustment on the timing instrument. You can see that this is not something you can do yourself in five minutes. This specialist care is extremely important and this is what we do with every Omega watch we own. A lot of watches are advertised as waterproof or water resistant. As part of the service we do replace all the gaskets and all the care is taken to make the watches resistant to water. The truth is that in the old watches it is nearly impossible to achieve the 100% result. So, do not take a bath or shower wearing you old watch. There is always a risk that something can go wrong and the damage caused by water is the hardest to repair. This is why we never say our watches are waterproof. Please treat it as if they are not if you want the timeless Omega.

Please note, I do offer seven day return if the watch is not to your liking or in any way faulty but please do not treat it like a catalogue service as we will have to charge you 20% re-listing fee and the returns postage is on you (unless you find the watch faulty but we don't list those).

This watch has been worn proudly in the past. It shows you what sort of amazing engineering has gone into it if it can survive in a nearly workable state for so long. The truth is you need to service your watch at least every five years to make sure you prolong its life. We have a watchmaker that had been helping us with restoration for the past 20 years and he has been working with Omega watches for past 50 years - you can't get any more knowledge than that. He has now retired and helps only us while enjoying his retirement. He is not pushed to deliver to the deadlines and he takes his time to make it perfect. This is why we are not sellers of more than 6-8 watches a year. Good things take time and pride in doing them well. As it is a hobby we never thought about selling our watches but in time we realised that we actually can keep several and at the same time share the models that we have already with others.

Please have a look at my past feedback, look at prices we have sold in the past, compare to the average ones of the same watches sell for and you will see that we sell not to make money. But it does help a bit if we make a pound or two on it:). At least we think we have done something worthwhile.

We donate to Cancer Research every time we make a profit.
