Hello and Welcome to the Textile Trunk! Please follow us on Instagram, we are @textiletrunk

I've just returned from a wonderful buying trip in France, my suitcases were laden with textile treasures! This is one of those treasures. This is a piece of 1817 , French toile de Jouy. I believe his fabric was roller printed and this piece has a full repeat of the original design! The design owes its name to the octagonal cartouche in white a woman is depicted lifting cupid from a cage. in the hexagonal medallion Cupid and Love find consolation from the ravages of time in the arms of Friendship ~ This piece has many signs of time and use, adding to the story of this amazing fabric. This was printed 2 years following the death of Christophe Oberkamph , the man that we owe so much gratitude to as he really was one of the founding fathers of French printed fabrics ~

MEASUREMENTS : This textile measures approximately : 50 inches by 46 inches at the longest and widest points ~

CONDITION ~ This textile is in as found condition, not freshly laundered It's faded with time. There are bleached out spots on this piece~ There is deep and wonderful patina! ~ There are mends and repairs.
