The animated character Pink Panther was originally taken from and inspired by a pink diamond in the 1964 classic comedy The Pink Panther. In the film the diamond is said to have a flaw that when held up to light a leaping panther can be seen within the diamond. The film follows the misadventure of Inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellars) as he attempts to foil The Phantom (David Niven) in his plans to steal the Pink Panther diamond. The credits within the film introduce and play out the animated antics of the first appearance of the Pink Panther. The character later appearing in his own animated television program popularizing the character and creating the legend of a very and only one PINK PANTHER.
