Pennsy
E-1 4-4-2 Camelback
Professionally Built by Paul Jansen
Professionally Painted

Excellent condition. No visible wheel ware. Quality box and foam in excellent condition. Open-frame motor. Please check out all the posted photos. Despite being dry as a bone, it's a smooth and reasonably quiet runner. The headlight is not illuminated.

I know of no other model of this Pennsy prototype. The late Paul Jansen was commissioned to build it circa 1970. The workmanship and accuracy of the model is comparable to the imported models of the time, Gem, PFM, etc. The wheel sets, motor and drivers were commercially available parts at the time. Everything else was made by Paul. He machined the unique three-axle tender trucks. Paul told me that the model was painted and finished by Jim Williams of San Francisco. Some of Paul's photos and working papers are included in this listing. See the last three photos posted here.

If you aren't familiar with Paul's work, it can be seen in the Model Railroader and RMC issues of his time period. There were pictures of a Pennsy K-4s he modified in the October 1972 issue of Model Railroader. He, personally, was an SP fan. So, most of his work that was published was SP. Can't help you there.

My close-up lens sometimes distorts. On the model that which is supposed to be round is round. That which is supposed to be straight, true and square is straight, true and square on the model.
