Amongst the rarest of recent McCartney releases (in most of the world this was only available as part of the very expensive limited edition Wings 1971-1973 box set), an incredibly fun, revealing, and essential listen for the McCartney fan.

It's well known that after The Beatles broke up, Paul was the most eager to recapture some of the sweaty thrill of touring with a band, forming Wings hastily and scrappily to see what magic he might find if he didn't overthink and overwork things. So he tried to fly as under the radar as a Beatle could and grind it out on the road in the era that this disc captures--part of the reason I think it was never previously released, and pretty well buried when it was, is that this is a very different feel than the "official" live Wings release, Wings Over America from 1976...By '76 they'd become a slick arena rock juggernaut...but in these European recordings you still feel Paul's initial hippie dream of a raggedy, funky, quasi-family band...and it's glorious.

Plenty of revelatory versions here of plenty of early Wings songs that Paul hasn't dared to play live since...and many which never even saw light of day as studio releases until recent reissues...Such a fun band, such delightful performances.
