During the early 1900s, it was popular for tourists to pick up these engraved ruby red glasses as memorabilia of their trip. The glasses would have the location, date, and could be pre-engraved with sentiments memories like 'Mother' or 'Father', or they could be personalized with the individual's name. Many were purchased as fairs and expositions 1880's to 1930's
Anyone visiting Niagara Falls or a county fair was likely to bring home a piece of ruby-stained pattern glass as a souvenir. Such novelties, turned out in hundreds of pressed patterns, were decorated in red stain baked on for permanence. Some patterns are Thumbprint, Heart band, Crystal wedding, etc.
Great collector item to recycle reuse and enjoy the beautiful glass of the past!
