This amazing piece is a rare and collectible sculptural one of a kind wooden weed vase made by the late Mendocino artist, Doug Ayers, in 1977. It is hand-signed in black ink "D. AYERS" and dated "2-77" (February, '77). There is additional writing, likely describing the wood variety; however, unfortunately, I am unable to read it. The wood could possibly be Rosewood, Walnut or something similar as it has the characteristic tone and a heavy lustrous feel. The narrow neck/top of the vase has a small chip visible from one side. There is also a small nick at the base- both imperfections are represented in this listing's photos, and are often found in collectibles of this age. A rare find, for sure.
