A crude and colorful little antique glass ground lip finished Mason shoulder seal pint fruit jar.
Embossed strongly in a thin fine cut stick type lettering - MASON'S PATENT NOV 30 TH 1858
No period after NOV and a wide spaced 18 58  The base is embossed with a mold letter B
Blown in mold in a bright Strong Ball Blue colored glass. A little heavier thick walled glass.
All of the pictures were taken in natural light and have not been enhanced. Accurately pictured.
A square shouldered cylinder shaped pint jar with raised and inward pinching side mold seams.
Wavy creased and mold textured glass. A clean glass batch with scattered tiny seeds and debris.
There is a 1/2" long totally open and clean surface blister near the right front mold seam. Pictured.
Possibly burst in molding but likely opened over time in its use. Super thin with a lightly felt edge.
The glass is bright clean and clear. There are two thin very light patchy drizzle stains on the interior.
Each running full length on opposite sides of the reverse. I can only imagine what caused them. Odd.
Took a bit of doing but I was able to get them pictured fairly well. Very light and non distracting.
Would easily polish out if desired. Other than that the rest of the jar is clean and clear as mentioned.
The jar is in excellent damage free condition. No cracks, chips, bruising or abrasions. A few small fine
light surface scratches and a rim of honest shelving wear on the base. A very nice body overall.
The ground lip and sealing area of the mouth is in great shape. Just a very few small thin edge flakes.
There is one small super thin smooth flake along the top edge which may well be from the grinding.
In excellent condition without a nick to be found anywhere on the rest of the sealing area.
Original [ as acquired ] porcelain lined zinc cover. Good or better, lightly aged, clean and damage free.
Top stamped <+> GENUINE BOYD CAP <+> FOR MASON JARS  Very worn but readable.
Clean solid zinc and free of interior debris. Its thick raised circular designed white porcelain liner is
tightly intact. Threads easily and fully to the shoulder in sealing. Nice cover from the jars era of use.
Even with its minor flaws still a nice crude and beautifully colored little pint MASON'S fruit jar.
