For those of you who are old enough to remember this fair, it’s hard to believe that it’s been 60 years.  This penny from the 1964-1965 NY World's Fair is becoming somewhat rare; especially these of the Unisphere..  Check it out on Ebay.  You’ll find elongated pennies for this fair but none if any of the Unisphere.  Don’t pass up this opportunity to add it to your collection (memories).  The Unisphere (stainless steel representation of the Earth) was made by United States Steel Corporation and is the iconic focal point of the entire fair.

According to Wikipedia:

The Unisphere measures 140 feet (43 m) high and 120 feet (37 m) in diameter. It sits atop a 20-foot-tall (6.1 m) tripod base with over 500 steel pieces representing the countries, as well as three steel rings representing the first artificial satellites orbiting Earth. Around the Unisphere is a reflecting pool measuring 310 feet (94 m) in diameter. The base is surrounded by 48 pairs of fountainheads, which were intended to conceal the tripod supporting the globe.

The Unisphere is still in flushing meadows corona park. A smaller copy, 30 feet wide, is located at Columbus Circle Manhattan in front of Trump Towers.
