This is a miniature white oak splint basket made in the style of American Appalachian baskets! This is very similar to Cherokee work, but since I don't know who made it I am calling it Appalachian instead of native American. Splints of natural white oak were dyed with natural bloodroot dye to achieve the pinkish tone, which is seen on the sides of the piece as well as the handle. The lashing at the rim appears to be shiny rivercane. This is unsigned. It measures approx 5" H x 3.5" W x 3" D. The handle drop is 2.5". Some slight distressing is present but nothing noticeable to the naked eye. This very cute basket would be right at home with country collectibles or use for a small arrangement or holiday decor!
