1940s vintage hinged bracelet in North African style from Tunisia.
I was delighted to find that this wonderful hinged bracelet has a romantic story to tell.  There is an inscription inside saying "Joan Baker Tunis 1943".   In May 1943 the Allies arrived in Tunis as part of their campaign in North Africa.  This bracelet must have been purchased by someone involved with the campaign, presumably an Allied soldier, as a present for a loved one back home.  I do hope it made its way back safely and that it was treasured by Joan and her family for many years. This evocative bangle is in wonderful gently worn condition, with a very secure clasp.  With a medium weight, so comfortable to wear (but not the small size), this is a real conversation piece!
Please note that this bangle is slightly smaller than modern standard, so it will only suit a smaller hand - in particular the security chain means that it doesn't open that wide to pass over the hand.  My hand is 3" wide across the base of my fingers and I just managed to squeeze it on.
Approx 1/2" wide
