MIRIAM HASKELL 50'S 3-PC
SET GOLD GILT LACY FILIGREE BRASS NECKLACE BROOCH & EARRINGS
For your consideration,
an absolutely MAGNIFICENT necklace with matching brooch and earrings
designed and hand made for Miriam Haskell CIRCA in the 1950's
The necklace features four strands of box link gilt brass
chains and a magnificent filigree gold gilt brass pendant with graduated size molded filigree gold gilt brass lacy frills clustered to form flowers. Each floret is all hand wired to a lattice gold gilt brass base. The florets are attached to the other by closed loop rings. It is very
unusual and truly beautiful. The necklace fastens with a decorated
encrusted floret box clasp. The clasp is signed “MIRIAM
HASKELL”. The necklace is fairly
long and can be worn draped with other necklaces, but I do not think it can be wrapped around the neck more than one. The cluster can be worn to either side of the neck/chest, to the front on chest or the back of neck.
The brooch is all gold
gilt brass with graduated molded filigree gold gilt brass lacy frills similar
to those of the necklace. The gold gilt
brass frills are graduated sizes and each is hand wired to the molded gold gilt
brass base. The brooch is signed “MIRIAM Haskell” on an
oval cartouche attached to the underside.
The earrings are gold
gilt brass dangles. It is designed with
a filigree gold gilt bead in the head in each earring. Each earring has a dangle made from filigree gold gilt brass
bead caps. The earrings fasten
with lever back screws. Both earring are signed “MIRIAM HASKELL” on the
underside and "HASKELL" on the ridge of the lever back. The screw heads of each earring has a pat no.
stamped on it.
The pieces all have a
good solid weight and the design has are unusually and beautiful. They have the look and feel of real Russian gold.
The beads and
brass accents used in construction of the pieces are of the best quality
and contribute to its smooth finish, exquisite beauty and well preserved
condition. It will appreciate in value over the years if gently worn
and carefully stored.
DIMENSIONS & WEIGHT: All measurements are approximate and taken at
longest/widest points.
Necklace ~25”L end to end. That is the measurement when the necklace is
laid flat in a straight line. It includes length of shortest chain, the clusters
of lacy filigree gilt brass florets and the box clasp. Does not include the push tongue latch.
It weighs approximately 88 grams.
Earrings ~ 2”L end to end x ½”W at widest point.
Each earring weighs approximately 6 grams.
Brooch ~ 2 ½”L x 1 ¾”W x ½”H.
Measurements are approximate at
longest, widest and highest points. The
brooch weighs 15 grams.
CONDITION: Please note this is pre-owned 1950's vintage
jewelry and the pieces have been gently worn. It originally belonged to a
relative and has been in storage in a dust free
and temperature controlled storage facility since I received it
in 1980’s.
The findings of the
pieces are all original and fairly well preserved. There is some tarnish which
gives the pieces a Russian gold hue. I
have not noticed any patina, but, it is the nature of brass to tarnish as it
ages. I may also develop some patina I
have not noticed. The chains have no gapping or stretching in any of the
links. The push tongue clasp of the necklace
fastens securely. The pin of the brooch
is a bit discolored, but still sharp, straight, sturdy and fits into the roll
over latch which fastens securely. The
earring backs fit snug and can be adjusted by the screws for comfort and security.
Please note that tarnish and patina are part of the
nature of brass and this develops over time. Additionally, please REMEMBER,
THAT MOST VINTAGE PIECES ARE FRAGILE DUE TO AGE and should
be gently worn and handled with care.
