In the 1970s, Karl Höfner produced violins in four main grade categories: Student; Orchestra; Concert; and Master. The KH66 was an Orchestra model and was aimed at the serious student. According to Karl Höfner's descriptions for distributors, these voilins were "made throughout of beautifully flamed and thoroughly seasoned wood... We only use best tone-wood, choice Bavarian spruce and European maple. The seasoning of the wood over years is standard..."

The violin features beautiful materials and shows precise workmanship. It is finished with gold-brown chestnut varnish, artistically shaded.

The instrument is resonant and responsive. It has a nice, well balanced tone, with rich overtones and good resonance.

The violin is defect-free structurally and is in excellent cosmetic condition. There are no cracks or repairs. While some minor traces of prior use can be detected, the instrument is in excellent shape overall.
