Fiumebianca was a highly successful violin
making boutique based in Tokyo, Japan and focused on building higher grade
string instruments. They were particularly active during the 1970s-1990s
decades. While the Fiumebianca brand may not be widely known in the United
States, their instruments are highly regarded among violin lovers in Japan.
The Antonio was the
highest ranking model in Fiumebianca's line-up during the 1980s. Targeting
professional musicians and advanced players, the Antonio was built with
meticulous craftmanship and precision from select, thoroughly aged tone woods. I
have been told that the tone wood for this flagship model was of the "old
vintage" variety (sourced from old constructions, etc.). Like many
expensive violins, the Antonio is hand-varnished and hand-rubbed using the
traditional techniques. The varnishing on the Antonio is artful and is styled to
provide an “antique” feel.
Based on my research, this model
retailed in mid-1980s for the equivalent of approximately $3,000. Since that
time, prices for higher quality string instruments have more than doubled, due
to the increased tone wood scarcity and luthier labor inflation. At the asking
price, this violin is an excellent value.
This instrument is characterized by
powerful projection, rich resonance and complex harmonics. It is also a beauty
to behold - fashions tighly flamed spruce belly and strongly flamed maple back, ribs, and neck.
The violin is in excellent (near-mint),
play-ready condition. There are no cracks, repairs or any other structural
defects. It is also in excellent shape cosmetically.
The strings are brand new Dominants
(please allow for some settle-in time).
The violin comes with a full set of accessories. If you prefer a different accessory set, please inquire – I will work with you to meet your needs.
Included accessories:
- original 1990s violin case made in Japan (woodcore violin-shaped case); the case is fully functional but shows ageing;

nickel-silver mount; mother of pearl slide; three-piece button with a m-o-p
eye; natural white horsehair);
