This Illustrated Modern Library book by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment, was illustrated by Philip Reisman and translated from the Russian by Constance Garnett. The Russian classic has 532 pages, a brief artist bio, and contains numerous one or two page color illustrations.

This copy is part of the Illustrated Modern Library series issued in the 1940’s with either of two slipcases (a light colored or a later black) or a glassine jacket (with either a paper label or with acetate print). This copy includes a glassine jacket with acetate print with both color and black and white illustrations.

The used book has a clean cover with bright gilt, a smooth red top stain, and no signs of wear. Fanning the pages, I noted no underlining, no offensive odor, and the binding is firm. The jacket shows no wear and no chips. Often, these jackets have chips and tears and the acetate print has rubbed off. This is an uncommonly clean and complete jacket compared to other copies I have seen, it has no chips or tears and no rubbing to the print. See photos.

Toledano value for a vg/vg copy was $30.00 in 2000. As of this offering there are no copies on ABE. Of the two or three jacketed copies on eBay, this is the nicest and cleanest. The items on eBay have some rubbing and small chips.
