Not 100% sure what I have here... 

Acquired at a recent estate auction where it was described only as a "rare French brass and leather wall nook"...

About 30 minutes of online research has led me to little additional insight... 

 

* THICK backing; looks to be two layers of leather sewn together... 

* Magnets do not stick to any of the metal parts... Quite sure it is all Brass... 

* No date marking... 

* The only marking found is the pictured 225 on the back of the hanging hook... 

* Heavy, high-quality item... 

* MEASURES 13" tall (14-1/4" with the top hook extended) X 5" wide...

USED... Everything is well connected to everything else. Exhibits a couple small nicks and spots of discoloration on the front. Metal parts show light tarnish and some dust in the crevices. There is a light, superficial crease on the lower part of the back; no doubt the result of picking up the heavy piece by the bottom tip with the face up.
