Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas; or, The Marvellous and Exciting Adventures of Pierre Aronnax, Conseil, His Servant, and Ned Land, A Canadian Harpooner.

Translated from the French of Jules Verne

Author's Edition

Boston: James R. Osgood and Company 1875

For sale is a very early English translation of a very notable book of the 19th century! Originally published in French in 1870, the first English translation was published in 1872, and the first American translation came out in 1873 by James R. Osgood. This is their second printing of the book just two years later. Though it is not a first, it is still a very hard to find edition and quite desirable. Bound in a green cloth with gold and black highlights, it is beautiful illustrated throughout featuring notable depictions of the story.

The cover features light wear, with some rubbing to the spine ends and corners. The interior is clean with some minor foxing / markings. There is an inscription on the first end paper as seen. Both interior hinges are starting to crack, but the binding is still quite secure. The tissue guard for the frontispiece is torn as seen. Overall this is a very nice copy of a well known book.
