Ceramic Arts Studio (Madison WI 1940-55) is well-known for its beautifully designed and decorated figurines of people and animals.

This colorful figurine of a Dutch boy from their "Foreign Costumes" series is called "Hans, Chubby Boy" and was made by CAS in 1950.  This figurine designed by Betty Harrington was made with blue, green, or yellow coloration.  An example of this figurine can be seen on page 105 of the 2003 book "Ceramic Arts Studio - The Legacy of Betty Harrington" by Donald-Brian Johnson, Timothy J. Holthaus, and James E. Petzold.

He is holding a bouquet of tulips behind his back and is about 6-3/4 inches tall, 3 inches wide, and 1-3/4 inches front to back.  The detailed hand-decoration typical of CAS pieces is evident on this piece with his clothing and hat, as well as the eyes, mouth, and blushing cheeks,

He is marked on the bottom "Ceramic Arts Studio" on one foot and (c) with the decorator's paint dots on the other foot.

He is in very good vintage condition - no chips or hairlines.
