Large Embara-Wounaan Basket

Geometric designs in brick red and warm beige are woven into the the surface of this special tribal basket! It was made by a member of the native Embara-Wounaan culture from central America. These indigenous peoples live in in neighboring parts of Colombia and Panama along the rivers in the rainforest; the borders are blurred there between the spiritual & natural worlds as well. They weave beautiful, finely woven baskets from the silky threads of the Chunga palm tree with detailed designs reflecting their environment & culture. This measures approx 7.75" H x 9" W  9" D, which is quite large for one of these tribal baskets. This would look wonderful on display with other handmade crafts and would be a stand out in any collection! Wounaan baskets are widely appreciated & continue to gain value.

Very Good Condition! There is fading to the dyed areas, creating a subtle pattern.
