Bessie Pease Gutmann (1876-1960) was a prolific illustrator & is most well-known for her prints of babies & children which were very popular when they were originally issued & are still being printed today.  Much of her artwork was published by her family's art publishing company.  Her work was and still is printed in many formats such as book and magazine illustrations, postcards, tins, fabric, etc.

The front of this postcard is printed with a typically adorable baby by Bessie Pease Gutmann.  Her portrait-like work titled "Contentment" was originally done as an oil painting with white background by Gutmann in 1929.  The title "CONTENTMENT" and (c) Gutmann & Gutmann, N.Y., is also shown on the front.  The back indicates that it was "PRINTED IN AMERICA".

It is a standard size cardboard postcard - 5-1/2 x 3-1/2 inches - that would have taken a 1-cent US stamp.  Unused and unposted, there is no writing or postmark on the back.

It is in good antique condition for a postcard that is almost 100 years old.  There are small dark/foxing? spots on the front, surface tearing and a bend on the front right corner, and some surface tearing on the top and bottom of the back of the card as shown in the photo.  It was apparently taped at one time.

It would be a great addition to a postcard collection - or look cute in a small frame.

Ships free by USPS First Class Mail between cardboard in an envelope with a First Class Stamp.  Buyer may select and pay for another shipping option.
