Ceramic Arts Studio (Madison WI 1940-55) is well-known for its beautifully designed & decorated figurines of people & animals.

This pretty lady made in 1947 from their "American Costumes" series is called "Pioneer Susie" and is often paired with "Pioneer Sam".  She is great on her own but it is always fun to look for her partner.

She is about 5 inches tall with the bottom of her skirt about 3-1/4 inches in diameter.  She was available with detailing in blue, green, or brown.  The detailed hand-decoration typical of CAS pieces is evident in this piece with the flowers and trim on her apron, dress, and scarf, and eyes with eyelashes.  She originally held a tiny wooden broom in her right hand.

She is not marked on the bottom, but probably originally had a Ceramic Arts Studio label.  The decorator's dots can be seen in the hole in the bottom of the piece.

She is in very good vintage condition - no chips, hairlines, or crazing.

Ships USPS.
