*History of Pre-War Vintage Japanese Fountain Pen: Nishio Private Collection*

Crafted by the esteemed Japanese manufacturer "NISHIO SEISHAKUSHO," renowned for their fountain pen production, this model comes from Osaka, one of Japan's largest cities. "NISHIO SEISHAKUSHO" embarked on its journey in the early 1900s and, although no longer operational, its legacy endures. The company's president and owner, Mr. Zero Nisho, who is now above 84 years old, holds the esteemed position of being considered one of Osaka's intellectual figures in the stationary revolution that followed World War II.

During that era, numerous distinctive pens were manufactured and sold by three prominent giants in the industry: Pilot, Sailor, and Platinum. Japan experienced unprecedented economic growth throughout the country, leading to the establishment of several stationary factories that, sadly, no longer exist today. In this regard, I am delighted to present a pen that originated in 1940s Osaka, Japan—a remarkable piece of history that is no longer readily available.

This pen carries the history, of the Nishio Fountain pen for more than 100 years.

This pen is a piece of fountain pen history that was once forgotten and is now retold to you.

*HARDEST POINT IRIDIUM NIB: HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY*

The use of iridium in nibs can be traced back to the early 19th century when the material's hardness and corrosion resistance made it a popular choice. Iridium, a rare and precious metal, is one of the hardest substances known and is exceptionally resistant to wear. This durability ensures that the nib maintains its shape and performance over extended periods of use.The concept of the "Hardest Point" nib design is based on the desire to create a nib with an extremely durable writing surface. The goal is to provide an exceptional writing experience by combining the hardness of the iridium tip with other design considerations.

The specific design philosophy behind the Hardest Point Iridium Nib may vary between manufacturers, but generally, it revolves around the following principles:

Durability: The nib is engineered to withstand prolonged use without showing signs of wear or deformation. The hardness of the iridium point contributes to its longevity.

Smoothness: Despite its hardness, the iridium tip is carefully crafted to ensure a smooth and consistent writing experience. It should glide effortlessly across the paper, reducing friction and allowing for a comfortable writing flow.

Precision: The design focuses on achieving precise ink flow and control. The nib's shape and slit configuration are crucial in regulating the amount of ink delivered, ensuring a consistent line width and ink saturation.

Flexibility: Some Hardest Point Iridium Nibs may incorporate a degree of flexibility, allowing for line variation and responsive writing. This flexibility enables calligraphers and artists to achieve different line widths and expressive strokes.

*CELLULOID FOUNTAIN PENS: HISTORY AND SIGNIFICANCE *

The history of celluloid usage in fountain pens in Japan traces back to the early 20th century. Celluloid, a synthetic material derived from cellulose nitrate, gained popularity due to its unique properties and versatility.

During that time, fountain pen makers in Japan were in search of an alternative material to replace hard rubber, which was commonly used for pen barrels and caps. Celluloid emerged as a favorable choice due to its advantages over rubber. It offered greater flexibility, enabling pen manufacturers to produce pens with intricate designs and shapes. Additionally, celluloid was lightweight, durable, and resistant to cracking or shattering, making it an ideal material for daily use.

*How to Use*

To use the pen

  1. Unscrew the grip from the body of the pen
  2. Insert the nib into an ink well
  3. squeeze the rubber sac to extract ink from the ink well into the pen

S Tier - Almost like Brand New: This pen is in exceptional condition, almost as if it were brand new. There are no signs of rust on the clip, and the original filling system is still intact and does not require replacement. The cap and piston filler, if applicable, screw on and off smoothly without any difficulties. The nib color is vivid with limited to no scratches. Any hairline scratches are barely visible, and there are no cracks on the pen. The pen feels smooth, polished, and shiny.

A Tier - Excellent Condition: This pen is in excellent condition with only minor flaws. There may be small chips on the nib, but no rust is present. Hairline scratches may be visible on the body, cap, and nib. The nib color remains consistent, although small scratches may be seen upon close inspection. The pen can be easily screwed on and off, and the filling system works properly. The original filling system is intact with no cracks on the body of the pen. The pen still feels smooth, polished, and shiny.

B Tier - Good Condition: This pen is in good condition and is perfectly usable. It may have some rust on the clip and trim. The nib color may have changed due to weathering or ink stains. The filling system has been replaced with a new one, possibly because the original one had hardened over time and needed replacement. There are no cracks on the pen, but there may be hairline scratches present.

C Tier - Fair Condition: This pen is in fair condition and is functional, but it has noticeable scratches on the body and cap. The trim may be rusted or chipped. Although there are no cracks, the filling system also requires replacement. The nib color may have changed, or the nib itself may have been re-polished.

F Tier - Poor Condition: This pen is still writable, but it is cosmetically in a terrible state. A major refurbishment has been conducted to restore the pen to an acceptable condition, but in the process, many of its original characteristics have been lost.

Please note that this item condition grade is based on general standards and may vary depending on the specific criteria and expectations of different collectors or sellers.
