Mongrel Virginians: The WIN Tribe by Arthur H. Estabrook and Ivan E. McDougle, 1926, First Edition, The Williams & Wilkins Company.

This extremely rare book covers an investigation into the genetic relationships and the resulting physical, mental, and social characteristics of an White-Indian-Negro (WIN) group living in an isolated four miles wide and eight miles long area in the foothills of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains. Estabrook, an eugenist from the Carnegie Institution in Washington, D.C., and McDougle,a sociology professor at Goucher College, examined local records and interviewed officials, teachers and long-time residents of the area. The book contains some photos and charts.

Book in really good condition for its age. Cover has some shelf wear, bumped corners, etc., but red color and the gilt lettering are still strong. A former Mills College library book, it has the library's stamp and impression, library card envelope, call number, etc. Otherwise pages in the book are clean and free of marks. Binding still holding well. Some tanning/aging of pages. See photos for details!
