Plat of National Museum, as arranged for Inaugural Reception and Ball, on 4th of March, 1881. "This building originally opened in 1881 as the country's first U.S. National Museum. It is now called The Arts and Industries Building (AIB) and is Smithsonian's second oldest building." This program has a List of Military, Veteran, and Civic Associations participating in Inaugural Ceremonies at Washington, March 4, 1881. There is a full page that show List of Accommodations of the DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC COMFORT / INAUGURAL CEREMONIES, MARCH 4, 1881, WASHINGTON, D.C. This program is full of advertising of the time including illustrative. There are 3 Breweries advertised, two which are quite rare. Picture is part of the description. I took pictures of all sides of every page. Now for the condition. It's made of paper. It is over 143 years old. As you look at the cover it measures 9-1/2" wide and 12" high. There 4-1/2" of paper along the left edge holding the covers together. All the pages inside are loose. The right edge of the pages have tears and creases. The biggest tears look to be just over 1". There is a triangular shape of paper loss off the corner of one page which you can see on the pictures. I am sure very few if any of these programs survived. James A. Garfield served as the 20th President only from March 4, 1881 thru September 19, 1881. He was shot in Washington on July 2 and died two months later.
