God Veles was also called the Strong God (Asila), his children-heroes were called asilki, or volotomans, i.e. Velesichi. God Veles is revered as the God of Wisdom and Magic, who patronizes Knowledgeable people. Also the Slavic god Veles is the patron of travelers. He is also revered as the God of wealth and prosperity. Merchants and artisans who sold their goods turned to Veles for help and patronage. Veles is also known as the keeper of the boundaries between the worlds. It is he who transports the souls of the dead across the Berezina River (the river of oblivion) and carries the souls of infants to the Clear World.
