HefnerLabs CGLI-2f Cable Ground Loop Isolator
HefnerLabs CGLI-2 rev. F Cable Ground Loop Isolator. ISRP: 149.99$USD

Eliminate Hum and Buzz when using Cable Service with your TV/VCR OR your PC's TV Card, Sound card, and/or HiFi System!

Without the Annoying Pops you get with RCA Type Ground Loop Isolators or the Heavy signal Loss of the DIY variety!

Cable Modem, Cable TV/FM, and community TV system ground loop HUMMING and picture "Hum Bar" can be eliminated by installation of a Cable Ground Loop Isolator

A typical ground loop humming problem occurs:

  • When you connect your computer sound card to a stereo receiver which is connected to a Cable TV wall plug.
  • When you plug your VCR into your stereo system
  • When you plug your TV into your stereo system
  • When you plug your Cable Modem into your computer that is plugged into a stereo system

This is because your Cable TV ground voltage is not zero relative to the house electrical system ground. This difference causes a 60Hz hum in USA, and 50Hz for Europe. This hum can damage sensitive electronic equipment and sometimes reduce your cable modem speed

Do you need a CGLI-2 Cable Ground Loop Isolator? Try these checks below:

  • The noise goes away when I disconnect the sound card from my receiver.
  • The noise goes away when I disconnect the Cable Connection from ALL equipment that is in some way connected to my computer and/or audio equipment (Cable Modem, Stereo System, TV / TVCARD, VCR, Cable Box)
  • The noise goes away when I disconnect my TV and VCR

If you answered YES to any of these questions, then you need a CGLI-2 Cable Ground Loop Isolator

How the CGLI-2 Isolators can be used to solve the problem

The most effective way to stop this 50/60Hz line noise is to break the galvanic connection which causes the ground loop. This is what using a ground loop isolator does. A CGLI-2 is better than an RCA type ground loop isolator for situations where Cable TV is involved because it stops the problem at the Source - the Cable outlet and it Does not cause the annoying and potentially damaging pops like RCA type Audio Ground Loop Isolators. The CGLI-2 Cable Ground Loop Isolator will work with ALL forms of cable TV (including Digital and HD Cable).

The diagrams below are samples on how to connect your CGLI-2 Cable Ground Loop Isolator into your entertainment system.

Features of the HefnerLabs CGLI-2 Cable Ground Loop Isolator

  • Compact design with Heavy Shielding for low signal loss and maximum protection from interference
  • FAR Better S/N Ratio than the DIY type Cable Ground loop isolators for a MUCH Crisper Picture and MUCH LOWER Signal loss than the DIY type
  • Capacitive based design protects against broadcast channel interference
  • LESS loss (Better Signal) than any transformer based design
  • Even More Compact with Even Lower Signal Loss and better Signal to Noise (S/N) Ratio than the CGLI-1 and similar isolator designs
  • Isolates BOTH the Ground path(shield) AND the Signal path(center wire) - Devices which fail to isolate BOTH are NOT true ground loop isolators, will not perform as well, and may not fix the problem at all.
  • WON'T short out line power injectors or interact with them in any way
  • Frequency Range of 5Mhz - 3Ghz (3000Mhz) bandwidth spans VHF/FM/UHF/CATV spectrum.
  • Cable Modem, Digital Cable, and HDTV Compatible<
  • High isolation eliminates 50/60 Hz ground currents and protects your sensitive equipment.
  • Prevents annoying hum or buzz in sound systems and "hum bars" in video systems.
  • Doesn't cause annoying and potentially damaging pops like RCA Audio type Ground Loop Isolators.
  • Built-in Male to Female Design eliminates the need for additional lossy connections to keep your signal AS CLEAN AND STRONG AS POSSIBLE
  • Short design helps keep the angular stress on your component's panels down (The longer a non-flexible assembly is, the more stress is put on your TV's RF jack once installed. Too much stress could break the jack, the circuit board the jack is connected to, or both. For this Reason it is HIGHLY irresponsible of vendors to sell units similar in design to the older CGLI-1 with F to F couplers. Anyone who uses such a setup runs the risk of damaging their system.)
  • Made in the U.S.A.

RCA type Audio Ground Loop Isolators often cause "pops" (In some cases you can literally see the cones on your subwoofers jump HARD when this happens) when you adjust the volume from zero. These pops can damage your system and speakers. This happens if you use a RCA type Audio Ground Loop Isolator between your pre-amp and your amp (or your PC and your home theater if you use the PC to control the volume). If you use a CGLI-2 you will not need the RCA type Audio Ground Loop Isolator in your system AT ALL

Installation of the HefnerLabs CGLI-2 Cable Ground Loop Isolator

Install the CGLI-2 so that it is between your cable service and ALL equipment that connects to your sound system. If you have a splitter splitting the cable service between multiple pieces of equipment in your setup then install the CGLI-2 between the splitter and your cable service outlet.

For Cable Modems
When using a CGLI-2 on a Cable Modem your preexisting signal level at the modem should be at least -14dBmV with a S/N ratio of at least 33dB for trouble free operation.

If you have Digital or HDTV
Please make sure your preexisting signal levels at the TV are at least -10dBmV with a S/N of 33dB or higher. Otherwise there might be potential problems recieving some of your channels.

- Change Log -

REV. F: (Production start: 10/02/2009)

Internal Redesign and tightened design tolerances to facilitate the following improvements:

  • Expanded high end operational range to 3Ghz (3000Mhz)
  • Specifically addressed issues with digital tv performance in low signal environments

Those of you who experienced signal issues with past revisions hopefully will find those issues solved in the new revision.

REV. F units have been specifically tested on all Digital channel clusters to verify functionality - performance curve appears to be fairly uniform on all frequencies. This improvement comes at a cost - the CGLI-2 is now more expensive to build. We think the added expense is worth it for the improvement in performance it brings.
