Spaceloft made by Aspen Aerogels

You are buying Spaceloft AEROGEL mat by the square foot.  It has  a thickness of .4 (10mm). This version of Spaceloft is great for Cryogenic temperatures of -328°F (like Cryogel) to hotter temperatures of 1200°F (like Pyrogel) Aspen Aerogel no longer makes Spaceloft using this formula and quantities are limited.

Not all Aerogel blankets are made equal. Over the years ingredients have changed. However, this is the best Aerogel Insulating mat I have ever seen. Most have been designed to accommodate either very low temperature or very high temperature. This model accomplishes both. Aspen Aerogels makes great products, but you won't find this one anywhere, but here. This fantastic product seems to accomplish everything all the others do combined into one, and is only sold by us.

Unless it is rated for high temperature, don't go putting a torch to your Aerogel. Low temperature Aerogel mats are often made with Polyester fibers which will rapidly breakdown under a flame. The product in this ad contains no polyester and is manufactured of fibers that do very well against direct contact with a flame.

There are probably millions of uses for this type of insulation. But if you have a tight area to insulate and you need the greatest R-Value for the space. This is your product. You can make a super refrigeration or freezer shell with this insulation. It is Hydrophobic, which means it will not absorb water. So, moisture from condensation is not a problem.

I hope your as amazed with this product as I am. I am not affiliated with Aspen Aerogel and the Spaceloft product we are selling is New Surplus.

Some info from the web:

Despite the fact that we are now living in the 21st century, aerogel insulation seems like a material out of science-fiction. It is the lightest solid known, although by volume it is 99% air. It is breathable, but it doesn't absorb water. It is incredibly strong for its weight. But most importantly, it is a fantastic insulator.

Some specialty insulation companies are now producing aerogel products that can be used for building insulation, although the largest market for the material is still in industry. Aerogel insulation is also exciting because it provides good benefit with a thin profile. For instance, shipping-containers, which have a narrow width to begin with, can be insulated without giving up too much valuable space to attaching insulation to the walls.

A couple products are now available on the market, although their use is still constrained because of the relatively high cost of the material. Aspen Aerogels makes an aerogel blanket called Spaceloft. Aerogel is such a good insulator that a blowtorch on one side cannot light a match on the opposite side. While that is an extreme case, it demonstrates the effectiveness of the material. (And if you are a numbers geek, a typical aerogel insulation blanket has a thermal conductivity of 0.091 BTU-in/hr-sq.ft.-F at an ambient temperature of 32 degrees Fahrenheit, corresponding to an R-value of  R-10.3 per inch. That's nearly double the insulation value of the best rigid insulation boards currently available.)

Aspen Aerogels' Spaceloft Insulation, is a 57-inch wide roll of aerogel material available in 0.20 in. and 0.40 in. thickness. Spaceloft is a useful product for insulating existing walls in retrofit situations where it is important to minimize the amount of floor area lost to building up wall insulation. An old brick building can be a beautiful thing, but brick makes a poor insulator. Instead of building a new insulated wall against the existing wall that would be 4" thick (or more), a Spaceloft blanket covered by drywall can achieve similar energy-efficiency in a wall covering that is less than an inch thick.

Aspen Aerogels’ Spaceloft® is a flexible aerogel composite blanket designed for insulating buildings and apparel. With a thermal conductivity of 14 mW m-1 K-1, Spaceloft is approximately two and half times better insulating than Styrofoam®. Great for home insulation, winter clothing, science projects, and any application where thermal insulation is needed and space is at a premium. Maximum temperature is 390°F/200°C, density is 0.15 g cm-3(2.45 oz/69 g per square foot).

WORKING WITH SPACELOFT®

Synthetic amorphous silica is oleophilic, so it readily absorbs the oils from your skin. This characteristic is why synthetic amorphous silica is used in cosmetics as an anti-sheen agent. For worker comfort when working with Spaceloft® aerogel blanket insulation, we recommend safety eyewear, work gloves, long sleeves, and long-legged work clothes. Respiratory protection is recommended if dust exposures exceed occupational exposure limits. Aerogel dust is easily washed from the skin and clothing using soap and water.
