*Because our clients are mostly jazz collectors and connoisseurs, as we are, we made it our policy to only sell vinyl that we grade in VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+) condition or better. This vinyl is in our opinion a VG+, looks and plays great.

Record Grade VG+ = Very well maintained. Just listened to both sides of the whole album and it plays beautiful. It is from our personal collection. Little to no surface noise at all. A few surface scratches that have no effect on music other than the occasional pop. Difficult to find this rare vintage stereo recording in such nice condition. (see pictures)

Jacket Grade VG+ = Shiny, clean, well maintained. We kept it on shelf in plastic cover. No staining. No writing. No tape, no seem splits. Glossy. Faint red circle stamped on back cover.. A very clean jacket for a 52 year old album. Comes with the original paper insert with artwork from Mercury Records (see pictures)

"We Free Kings" is a 1962 LP by the jazz multi-instrumentalist Roland Kirk. His group works through a set of bluesy post-bop numbers, including a highly regarded version of Charlie Parker's "Blues for Alice". The title track, a Kirk composition, is a variation on the Christmas carol "We Three Kings".

The Allmusic review by Lindsay Planer calls the album "among the most consistent of his early efforts. The assembled quartet provides an ample balance of bop and soul compliments to Kirk's decidedly individual polyphonic performance style. With a nod to the contemporary performance style of John Coltrane, as well as a measure of his influences — most notably Clifford Brown and Sidney Bechet — Kirk maneuvers into and out of some inspiring situations".
