FAQ

Where are your bell totas made?

These 30-bird bell totas are made by the Barefoot College, an NGO in rural Rajasthan.

Established in 1972, the Barefoot College is a non-government organisation that has been providing basic services and solutions to problems in rural communities, with the objective of making them self-sufficient and sustainable. These 'Barefoot solutions' can be broadly categorised into solar energy, water, education, health care, rural handicrafts, people's action, communication, women's empowerment and wasteland development.

How are they made?

You are buying one 'string' of birds. Each bird has been handmade by our artisans in India using clean recycled cotton rags left over from the massive garment industry.

Each bird has been threaded onto a string with small, coloured beads separating each one. There is also a small bell at the bottom.

What can I do with the bell tota?

They make an ideal door hanging and are traditional in Indian households when welcoming guests.

PLEASE NOTE: These bell totas are not toys – they contain small pieces unsuitable for children.

Suitable for indoor or outdoor use, however do not leave them outside in the rain or in adverse weather. We recommend only using our totas outside on a sunny day.

When can I expect my delivery?
