Mats Jonasson (yu-na-son) has spent a lifetime working with glass. In 1959, at the age of 14, he joined the Maleras Glasbruk AB in Maleras, Sweden as an engraver. His father, who also worked there, knew his son was an excellent artist and recommended him for the job. Ten years later, Mats moved to Kosta, and then returned to Maleras in 1975. Since that time, his love of nature has manifested itself in his acclaimed crystal sculptures. Jonasson begins his work with a drawing. He then carves a plaster replica of the finished piece. Unlike plaster or resin collectibles, a silicone mold will not work with molten glass - the mold created from Jonasson's replica is iron. He then works on the iron mold directly, using diamond drills and files to clarify its details. The full lead crystal used in the finished piece is a special blend developed by the Swedish Glass Research Institute. This crystal is known for its extraordinary refraction and brilliance. After casting, the glass is annealed for 15-20 hours. Any pieces with imperfections - such as air bubbles - are discarded before the laborious post-production begins. This involves sandblasting portions of each piece, with various grades of cutting sand at different velocities. Each sculpture is then ground and polished, and finally minute details - such as plumage - are achieved with engraving.

The Lines: Certainly the most successful line of Jonasson sculptures is his "Wildlife" series. His subjects range from wolves to penguins, from dolphins to gorillas, from eagles to elephants. Nature is also the focus of Jonasson's extensive line of paperweights. Retired pieces are highly collectible. The Mats Jonasson Collectors' Society has its own exclusive pieces. This year's Members Only piece is "The Prince of the Jungle", a lion cub. Since 1997, Jonasson has produced a yearly Limited Edition sculpture that is issued in a run of 975 pieces. This year's Limited Edition is "The African Buffalo. Previous Limited Editions were "Cheetah" 1997, and "Elephant", 1998. In addition to the "Wildlife" series, he also creates unique lines of bowls, vases, and floral sculptures. Jonasson recently introduced his "Totem" series, inspired by native mask-making. The quality of craftsmanship and artistry all but assures that Mat Jonasson's work will continue to grow in value on the secondary market.

Shipping charges are calculated by location through the shipping calculator for each item.  I offer discounts for multiple orders by combining charges depending on weight. I do charge a handling fee on the calculated shipping to cover my costs of packaging materials, but I believe them fair compared to other fees I have seen on eBay and the comments from some of my repeat customers are proof. Please e-mail me for details and charges after you have finished shopping. Even if an invoice was generated I can always re-issue a corrected one. Most expensive jewelry is shipped Priority mail unless you want it faster. Most other items are shipped USPS first class mail unless the weight exceeds 13 ounces, then it goes Priority.  International orders can go first class parcel if you don’t mind the wait or I can send them Priority but for heavy, larger items it can be expensive! Depending on the weight of the pieces, many can be combined for the same rate. Books, CD's, etc. are usually sent media for domestic orders and again many items can usually be included in 1 order for a combined shipping discount, especially CD's, unless you want it faster or if you live outside the United States. It takes 2-9 days for domestic media mail. Combined orders of printed (or recorded) material and gifts or jewelry cannot be sent media mail! For payment I accept PayPal. Shipment will only go out after cleared payment International orders must use PayPal and are not refundable. 

 I accept returns for defective or damaged merchandise that is not represented as such in the descriptions, or for good reason, within14 days of receipt of goods and only after authorization from me. All returns must be returned in original packing and shipped back the same way received. Buyers are responsible for any applicable fees incurred by me through PayPal or EBay that are not refundable and any customs duty that may be applicable as well as return postage. If there is a problem with the item and It is my fault I will pay return postage or discount future orders depending on the customer’s preference. Items must be returned intact and specimen as originally sent. I prefer not to accept returns from outside the United States, unless I caused the problem.

I usually ship the same day clear payment is received and never more than 5 days after payment.
