Japanese Country Fabrics

This piece represents the highly collectible Japanese country Indigo-dyed utilitarian textiles. They were used over many years, and carefully hand-patched using a variety of stitches, including sashiko running white thread stitches. Various fabric patches and use of different textiles and weaves are all a part of the beauty, history and collectibility of these pieces. It dates to 1930’s to 1940's.

Item for sale: This four panel futon cover has a lovely plaid weave of indigo, gold and white. The plaid strips are in very good condition, except for one large hole, 3" by 4". The border is in poor condition, it is torn in places and very discolored - it may be an older fabric than the plaid pieces. 

There is a plain indigo back, with a large opening for the futon. Along this opening is one large tear - please see photos. The dimensions are 58 inches wide by 73 inches long.
