Passiflora Maliformis  5 finest Seeds

This rare and exceptionally pretty passion fruit has fragrant flowers with purple, red and white speckled petals. These very exotic, fragrant blooms usually appear from June to November, although in warmer countries they can flower and bear fruit at any time. The fruits have purple, yellow or green skin and a delicious, sweet, juicy, yellow orange pulp that is aromatically scented with a hint of grape-flavou. They are usually eaten fresh or used to flavour drinks and in Jamaica, it is scooped from the shell and served with wine and sugar, the strained juice being excellent for making cold drinks. It may be grown as a houseplant in a sunny south-facing window. The botanical name of this plant means, "like an apple". It is native to the Caribbean, Central America and Northern South America. SOWING ADVICE: Sow seeds, covering them thinly, preferably in spring but can be at any time, in good light, at between 15 and 20 degrees C. Prick out small seedlings into 3 inch/8cm pots containing a John Innes, loam-based compost. Grow on before planting into a large container or sheltered spot outdoors, with climbing support, and be sure to protect them from freezing in winter.
