USB Input to your Factory Car Stereo

BMW X3 (E83) production date 09/2005 and up with DSP without navigation, CD changer and iPod connection
BMW Z4 (E85) production date 02/2006 and up with DSP without navigation, CD changer and iPod connection
BMW Z4 (E86) coupe production date 05/2006 and up with DSP without navigation, CD changer and iPod connection

These vehicles above do not require GROM DSP adapter (use analog DSP) and can be installed at stereo or boot, but the audio part will not work until the stereo is programmed (retrofitted) to accept CD Changer (BMW calls it “vehicle order”). Please contact your local BMW dealer and ask them to retrofit the stereo to accept CD changer

If your car falls into the above range and has Navigation, CD changer or iPod connection, GROM will work without any reprogramming

  • Step 1 - remove the factory head unit (see FAQ's or video clips for further help)
  • Step 2 - connect the Data Cable (Vehicle Specific Cable) into the typically empty CD changer port on the rear of the unit.
  • Step 3 - plug the other end of the data cable into the GROM interface which is small enough to leave behind the stereo or ideally route into the glove box.
  • Step 4 - connect your chosen accessory cables/USB cable and route to your preferred location around the drivers area.
  • Step 5 - re-install head unit and enjoy.

Data Cable:

Each kit comes with one vehicle-specific cable (data cable) for connection to the car. A BMW has a choice of two:

  • Connection into the back of the radio (except on navigation models) requires the BMWS cable, please click here for installation instructions.
  • CD changer connection usually located in the boot requires the BMWT cable, please see the video clip.
