almost any paints can be used, we mainly use 

household emulsion tester pots (B&Q Valspar is our favourite ), 

spray paints ( silver and gold usually look good direct onto wood, other colours usually need a spray primer first )

and acrylic artist paint

please note these are laser cut so upon opening your parcel may have a delightful 'smoky wood' aroma - unfortunately, this will fade fairly quickly
