Today we are offering a rare, very old, bisque head doll which we believe to be French or possibly German. Dating to the late 19th century, this sweet harlequin has seen better days. Her costume is in shreds -- typical of silk that has survived from this period. Her cape is in good condition. Her cap is very good with amazing lace tatting at the edges. Her body appears to be paper over wire and the hands and foot (one missing) are the ends of the wire wrapped with cotton thread. The right leg (left in photos) extends down further than the left. We have not removed the clothing (it is sewed on) to look for maker's marks. This would be a wonderful restoration project for a talented doll maker or seamstress.
