ANY HELP IN PROPERLY IDENTIFYING THIS IS APPRECIATED. NOT 100% SURE WHICH SPONDYLUS THIS IS. I AM 90% SURE THIS IS LIMBATUS. ALTHOUGH SOME HAVE SUGGESTED THIS IS ALSO CRASSISQUAMA. I HAVE UPDATED THIS LISTING AS MUCH AS I AM ABLE.

DESCRIPTION:
This was taken live by panga boat fishermen just west of Puerto Penasco, Mexico in open ocean at 18 meters depth on rocky outcropping. The animal was taken for the meat by the fisherman and the shell presented to me. See the last photo for uncleaned condition of these shells.
All my shells are cleaned the same way, when the build up is heavy. First a soaking in fresh water, then scrubbing with plastic brush, then small wire brush, let dry. Once dry a very quick muriatic acid drip, a dip into water to neutralize the acid, and another scrubbing with plastic brush. Soak for another hour, another quick brushing, then set in the shade to dry. These shells have parasites, which unless they are very large, I leave on the shell. Some small remnant of the animal, may be on the insides. I let those who purchase the shells clean them more if desired. There is a light coating of mineral oil on the shell to bring out the colors. A wash in warm water with dish soap will remove this if you do not desire it.
