18 gauge is very thin " THINK EARRING HOLE ",16 gauge thicker "MOST BODY PIERCINGS and 14 gauge being the thickest.18 gauge will fit most holes with a little wiggle room ,16 is average . If you are unsure always order a smaller size usually 18 gauge.
