Antique R.Merkelbach Jugendstil/Art Nouveau Beer Stein/Pitcher #3025 by Charlotte Krause c.1910s

Description: This very interesting German pouring beer stein/pitcher was manufactured by Reinhold Merkelbach - the most famous manufacturer of Jugendstil beer steins and other ceramics. The artists who worked for R.Merkelbach included R.Riemerschmid, P.Wynand, Carl Mehlem, Charlotte Krause, L.Hohlwein A.Kamp, A.Niemeyer and other famous designers and art professors of Art Nouveau/Jugendstil era.

Nice form design with ornate relief rosettes in style of Renaissance period stoneware vessels. The stein is made of grey pottery with cobalt-blue glaze. The design of the stein was attributed to Charlotte Krause - one of the very few women-designers in the industry. The pewter lid is a special Merkelbach lid - there were special types of lids and thumblifts used with brown-glazed Jugendstil stoneware.

Excellent condition with no damage or repairs. The stein is marked with "Reinhold Merkelbach" mark in paralle lines - this mark was used between 1916 and 1936. The design was created in 1912, the stein was made around late 1910s. Model number 3025.

The stein is very large and impressive - 6.2" tall to the top of the thumblift, 1.5 L capacity. There is no lid, but it looks like this particular model was made with no lid - the catalog picture I have (see pics.) show unlidded stein as well.

Exceelent flawless condition.

Please note - I have 2 of those and if somebody is interested in matching pair steins, please contact me.
